It seems like the hardest part about forming a new, good habit, is to actually just get started and stick with it. This week has been week 1 of our “get in shape” goal, and it’s going rather well. This mornings run was great. It was the perfect temperature, I had some fun tunes playing, and I made myself keep going when my head kept saying to stop. It was a good run, a short 2 miler, but as other runners (12 yr. old boys no less) passed me by, I couldn’t help but feel excited to be “one of them”. I’ve got so far to go, but the worn out marathon chip that is still clipped to my right shoe reminds me that I’ve accomplished a lot before this. Our small goals are going to get us big results and we’re taking it one day at a time! Feels good! For all of you out there that are consistently running, Way to go!!!
I’m finding reasons all over the place to be happy these days. Take the roses exploding with color in the front yard. I didn’t think I actually liked roses, until I cut a few and put them in vases around the house. Now, everywhere I go, there’s a touch of color and freshness to the room and that feels good too! If you’re struggling to find things to be happy about these days…take it back to the simple things in life. Babies, husbands that you can kiss whenever you want, flowers that smell so good, and blessings. Countless blessings all around. I even re-painted my black kitchen chairs to a barn red and it makes me smile every time I walk by. And that only cost me $6 of spray paint! Not bad for a minor change that makes a major difference in my day.
And just like Peter in the movie Hook, his happy thoughts took him to places he’d forgotten how to get to. He could fly once again in Neverland, and after returning to real life, became a wonderful father once again to his kids and put so many things back into perspective. You just have to find your happy thoughts!
Hope you’re enjoying your summer!
